Kitchen Cabinet Updates

Hi friends! I wanted to give y'all a space for every step and detail of what products I used on the Kitchen Cabinet update. I am going to break this down to be as organized and simple as possible! Truly when I say..... If I can do this, YOU can do it too! If you aren't handy with a drill like me, watch some youtube tutorials and get handy!

Step 1: Pick your paint

This might seem obvious but please please please, don't just take a swing with a paint color. Get some color samples, put them up and leave them up for at least a week. I had my favorite color up for 4 days before I went and got more samples! I ended up going with a Repose Gray from Sherwin Williams which was a later add! This is why I say leave your samples up for a few days, things can change and you don't want to be stuck with a quick decision.

Step 2: Sanding

The next step is probably one of the easier steps, you can't mess it up! Take all of the doors down and start sanding front and back. Some tutorials I watched said to use a tool to take off any finish that was on your old doors. We decided to skip that and just sand with 150 grit sand paper. I guess I will find out in a few months if that was the right choice ;) After you sand , make sure you get a wet towel to get all of the dust off of the cabinets. I used a wet towel and then dried it immediately after. (This was because we started painting, but it isn't a necessary step)

Step 3: START PAINTING WOO!

First coat of paint! I recommend taking all of your cabinets off so that you don't have to worry about paint dripping downwards. Make sure you have a paint brush and a small roller. If you have grooves in your cabinet like I do then make sure you use the paint brush to get in there. Use the roller for all of your flat faces of your cabinets. Make sure you let your first coat of paint dry before you try to do the second. I repeat let that first coat dry!!!

Step 4: Second coat of paint: Follow steps above :)

While your paint is drying this is a good time to start spray painting the hinges and nails of all of your cabinets. If you are like me I wanted the matte black handles and hinges to pop! If you have silver handles I would spray paint your hinges silver, same with gold, etc. I think matching your metals when it comes to hardware is essential.

Step 5: Handles

Thanks to all of you I narrowed down my choices of handles and went with a more modern and updated look. When I first started searching for handles I went to lowes. One handle was $6. I needed 25 which would have been $150 !!! Not in the budget so I turned to the place that always saves the day AMAZON. I purchased 25 handles for $50 here is the link to the Ravinte 25 Pack 5 inch handles. When starting to drill the handles in you can purchase a plastic template or you can make your own out of paper! Ryan helped with this part and did all the drilling while I screwed everything in!

Step 6: Put them up!

Last but definitely not least! Putting the cabinets back where they belong. Taking them off, putting them up, again and again and again. The hinges have extra space for you to jimmy your cabinet doors so that they match up evenly. In theory this is great, reality it takes a long time to get them to perfectly match up. My tip: Stay patient, take a deep breath, and realize that you might be there for over an hour.

All in all we got it done in a week, but this could easily be done in a weekend! it just depends on how dedicated you are to the task! Our schedules just didn't allow for a full weekend hustle (probs because we decided to start on Easter weekend) BUT we did get to transform a space for $200 and in less than a week!

If you try it out yourself, or want help please send me a message or shoot me an email! I would LOVE to help along the way :)

Have a great weekend and check out these before and afters!!!! I mean WOW.
