Hi everyone! If you have been following me for anytime now you know that I began a journey to clean beauty starting in July of 2020. In October of 2019 I started suffering from extreme hormonal breakouts. These started out randomly but turned into something that never went away. I don't know about you, but I have never suffered from acne in my life. So at 22 when my face turned into what most middle schoolers are going through I began searching for every way possible to make it go away.
It began with trying all of these different serums from The Original. They would initially burn when applying and I read online that this was "normal". When the serums didn't make the acne better I decided to try Curology. Now don't get me wrong Curology definitely helped but again nothing took away the scarring and the extreme pain that my face was in. Every night I would sit in front of a fan on my floor before applying my moisturizer knowing the pain that was to come. There were so many tears shed not because of what my face looked like (okay maybe a little) but mainly because of the burning sensation my face felt at all times. My final straw was applying a "safe for babies" sunscreen this summer at the beach that resulted in me going inside after an hour because the pain was actually making me nauseous. I couldn't even be outside on vacation because of how bad my skin felt.
After lots of research and discovering that one of the ingredients in this sunscreen was Oxybenzone. I will give you some of the side effects that this ingredient has....inflamation of skin, skin irritation, skin rash, acne, contact dermatitis and much more. I only listed the side effects that I experienced. Another side effect is hormone disruption. Now let me remind you this sunscreen was said to be "safe for babies"!!! I immediately started to look up ingredients of all my skincare and makeup hoping to discover that maybe this was the cause of the pain I was feeling. Little did you know it indeed was.
This is when BeautyCounter came in. Not only did my pain immediately go away, but my acne and breakouts slowly started to fade. I canceled my Curology membership, I stopped buying magical acne creams and truly started to love my skin again. One of the reasons I love being a BeautyCounter educator is because I get to tell stories like mine, and lift off the veil that the beauty industry has us all under. Beautycounter has committed to The Never List which is a list of over 1,800 ingredients that they will never put into their products. Guess which product is on that list.... Oxybenzone the number one used ingredient in sunscreens. Some of the other products include formaldehyde, coal tar, and EDTAs (which can be toxic to organs).
I am going to share just a few of the photos I have taken along the way with hopes that you too will decide to take control of what you are putting into your body! Y'all 2020 has been a year but one good this that has come out of it for me is new, clean skincare!!
Top Left was at the beach entire face allergic reaction to the sunscreen. The other pictures just show some of the scarring and breakouts throughout the year.
Here are pictures of my face just from this morning y'all!!! I seriously haven't been this confident in so long and it 100% is from using cleaner products. I will link everything that I use and my shop through beauty counter below! Just a reminder that there are 4 days left to get 20% off!
